IN LOVING MEMORY OF THELIA MAE HILL
It is with great sadness that the Hill family announces the passing of their beloved Thelia Mae Hill.
Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Thelia M. Hill, was called home to be by her savior Jesus Christ.
Thelia was born to the late Eugene Washington & Mamie (Smith) Washington on May 1, 1930 in St. Paul, North Carolina.
They were a family of nine siblings; Ivory, James, Janie, Eugene, Clarence, Gracie-Lee, Rena Bell, George, and Alfred. All predeceased by her except brother Ivory Washington.
Her early childhood was spent on the family farm in St. Paul. Thelia received her early childhood education in St Paul, North Carolina. She loved schooling and loved learning. She was an avid reader. She loved people, she met no strangers and most people loved her in return. She was progressive in her thinking and accepted the world as it came. She accepted Christ at an early age, and she has been a long-time member of Mount Zion AME church.
Thelia & Roy met in the 1940's and she married the love of her life, Roy G Hill Sr., on June 25th 1949. Out of this blessed union was Gracie, Roy Jr, and Sheila. Years later, Roy Jr's granted her another daughter by marrying his wife Libby. Their oldest child Gracie passed in 2013 after many years of suffering with MS. Thelia and the family survived this devastation because of their faith, love, and belief in God. On June 25th of this year, just last month, God blessed Roy and Thelia with 75 years of a loving marriage which was celebrated along with family and friends.
Thelia's last full-time job was a manager of men's clothing at Sears, Roebuck and Company.
Thelia's loving-guiding hand was extended to being a wonderful grandmother to Christopher, Krystle, Granddaughter-in-law Colette Ulanmo.
She was a devoted great grandmother to Aurora whom she called Sunshine; Gaige, aka Little Boy; Aubrianna, her Princess; and Bryson, the Prince. Her heart further extended to Arian & Addison. Special mention of twins Tory & Taylor James who she babysat as infants. Darielle Moore who she & Roy saw as an additional grand. Her love for family and friends was unlimited love. She leaves behind a host of family and friends if not mentioned most certainly not forgotten.
She enjoyed life; loved traveling and cruising with her daughter Sheila. She did get to see Hawaii which was on her list of places including in her younger years visiting Africa, Spain & the Sahara Desert.
She was a very remarkable woman who met no strangers. So many people became life-long, including Virginia Cooley; more of a sister.
In closing, Thelia would say, "Take it to the Lord and leave it there, She will be missed until the end of time.
In celebration of her life, a viewing and visitation will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Mt Zion AME Church on 630 E. Front St, Plainfield, NJ, beginning at 9:30am EDT. The funeral service will follow at 11:00am EDT at the same venue. Thelia will be laid to rest at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ at 1:00pm EDT.
