The DasMahapatra family is heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Jaya DasMahapatra, of Nutley, NJ, on September 18, 2024. We pray God bless her departed soul with eternal peace and give strength to the family members who bear this loss.
Jaya was born on September 13, 1948, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. After obtaining her master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Calcutta, she taught for several years at Baranagar Rajkumari Memorial Girls High School. After marriage, Jaya moved to Wisconsin, USA, where she took courses in medical technology at MATC in Madison, and received certifications from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel, Inc. (NCA). She started her career as a medical technologist in Madison, WI. Jaya, along with her husband and young daughter, moved to Nutley, NJ, 40 years ago, where she continued working at Quest Diagnostics for 32 years as group leader of the Virology Department.
Jaya was an avid traveler who enjoyed experiencing the wonders of the world and its various cultures. She was a lover of nature and nurtured a bountiful vegetable and flower garden. She was the beloved wife of Bimal DasMahapatra, devoted mother to Sanchita Das Patel, cherished grandmother to Rohan and Sahana, and adored mother-in-law to Nimesh Patel of Warren, NJ. Jaya was also a dear sister to Bijaya DasMahapatra and Shyamal DasMahapatra (brother-in-law) of Bloomfield, NJ.
Jaya had an innate ability to spread joy and offer guidance to those around her. Her wisdom was boundless, and she generously shared it with an open heart, supporting everyone she encountered with thoughtful advice, gentle encouragement, and an infectious zest for life. Her legacy is one of unity, compassion, and love, which she provided with unwavering dedication, with her family and friends.
